Brasília's Estádio Nacional Mané Garrincha, one of the stadiums built for the 2014 World Cup, "will serve as an office," according to LANCEPRESS. The stadium, with a monthly maintenance cost of R$600,000 ($185,000), "will house the offices" of three departments of Brazilian government: Sustainable Economy & Development, Human & Social Development and Sports & Leisure. Senator & former footballer Romário de Souza Faria stated the action was to "reduce the cost of rent." Faria: "To reduce costs, the newly elected governor Rodrigo Rollemberg will open at the location (Mané Garrincha) three government offices that currently work out of rented buildings. 40 empty rooms in the arena will be occupied by these administrative organizations. This alternative will save R$10.5 million ($3.2M) annually in rent. Unfortunately, we are now facing problems that were announced before the World Cup: we paid to have stadiums built in several cities without football culture and without a post-World Cup plan. ... This was a good alternative, far from ideal, you know, a stadium should be kept for sports. But even so, I hope that other governors also find ways to lessen the damages" (LANCEPRESS, 3/10).
