Argentine Government Rejects Push To Establish Prison Sentences For 'Barrabravas'

The Argentine government voted against a project led by Buenos Aires province Governor Daniel Scioli and Lomas de Zamora Mayor Martín Insaurralde to penalize hooligan "barrabravas," according to IPROFESIONAL. The initiative was denied by Diana Conti of the Argentine Chamber of Deputies, who said that punishing barras would represent "brutal stigmatizing." She said that "criminal law is not a magic solution" (IPROFESIONAL, 3/11).
