São Paulo To Host 2017 Parapan American Youth Games

São Paulo was chosen Wednesday to host the 2017 Parapan American Youth Games. Close to 1,000 athletes between the ages of 13 and 21 from 20 countries will participate in the 12-sport event put together by the Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB). Aside from the competition, the CPB will also be responsible for hosting the General Assembly of the Paralympic Committee of the Americas before the opening of the Parapan as well as implementing the Youth Games Education Program, which will be able to target athletes, referees and leading participants. Brazilian Paralympic Committee President & Int'l Paralympic Committee VP Andrew Parsons: "The CPB is extremely happy to have the privilege to host a competition like the Parapan American Youth Games in São Paulo. After the Olympic Games in Rio in 2016, the recognition of the paralympic sport will be at its peak in the Americas. What could be more motivating to young athletes than competing in a country that just hosted the Paralympic Games? It's incredible news for the expansion of the Paralympic Movement in the Americas" (CPB).
