Media Notes: EHF Euro 2014 Cumulative Audience Climbs To 723 Million

The European Handball Federation and media and marketing partner Infront Sports & Media announced a cumulative audience of 723 million for the Women’s EHF Euro 2014, which is the highest ever result for the championship. The result marks not only a 90% increase on the '12 edition (380 million), but also significantly tops the previous record set in '06 (461 million). In terms of broadcast hours, the tournament gained a 65% climb of 758 hours compared to '12. Overall, the tournament was aired in 145 countries, following agreements brokered by Infront with 85 broadcasters receiving an HDTV signal (Infront). ... Broadcaster John Inverdale "was forced to apologise yet again for his on-air comments" on Tuesday. Inverdale inadvertently "swore during Radio Five Live's coverage of the Cheltenham Festival." He "blurted out the swear word during a discussion with John Francome and Lizzie Kelly as they discussed the former's early days in racing" (London INDEPENDENT, 3/10).
