Brasileiro Série A Clubs To Lose Points For Being Late On Payments To Players

The Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) approved "punishment in the deduction of points" in the '15 Campeonato Brasileiro for Série A clubs that did not pay players' salaries on time, according to Lincoln Jr. & Barsetti of ESTADÃO. The Financial Fair Play was "unanimously approved" by the Conselho Técnico dos Clubes da Série A, but needs inclusion in the championship's official rules. Brasileiro side Vasco da Gama President Eurico Miranda: "It will be good to end the business of lying about paying and lying about playing." Along with point deductions, "other punishments" are predicted to become regular as well. Clubs that do not pay players for one month will "lose hiring rights." Two months without pay and the players reserve the right to refuse to play. On the third month, the "athlete has the right to rescind" any contracts. For the punishment to be effective, though, "players will need to report" missed payments (ESTADÃO, 3/2). In Bahia, Ulisses Gama reported these new rules are the same ones the São Paulo Football Federation has been using since '12. Brasileiro club Grêmio President Romildo Bolzan Jr.: "I'll defend even a broader situation, that congress and the government streamline the regulation of all Fair Play ... to make its mark on regulating Brazilian football. That way, teams can be penalized with point deductions, depreciation and other punishments " (BAHIA NOTÍCIAS, 3/2).
