Several Barcelona Players' Business Interests Span Range Of Industries

Many things are said regarding football players "and their wasting of money, but what they don't know is that the most 'judicious'" Barcelona players are saving and "already assuring their future following retirement," according to Javier Wilches G of AS. Messi founded Limecu 2010 SA with just €3,000 ($3,360). The company purchases, leases and sells land and housing. Messi also invested in the Aqualina high-rise in his birthplace of Rosario, Argentina. The 125m tower features 40 floors of apartments, some of which he owns. He "also acquired the Azahares residential complex, an 80-hectare estate on the banks of the Río Paraná that includes a marina with room for 60 boats, tennis courts, multi-sport courts, a pool and a spa." The location is valued at €20M ($22.4M). Neymar's NR Sports is a business led by his father. The company "manages his image rights" and also "helps advise other athletes and artists on administrating their earnings from endorsements." NR Sports makes around €30M per year "and consists of professionals available to advise clients 24 hours a day." Its clients include surfer Marina Werneck, singer Alexandre Pires and DJ Thascya y Raffaela. Gerard Piqué is the founder of Kerad Games, a company dedicated to online video games. His investment in its creation and maintenance is around €2M ($2.24M). He also bought part of Catalan meat company Bas Alimentària. Croatian midfielder Ivan Rakitic opened a restaurant in Seville called Dinain Tapas & Copas with his wife Raquel Mauri, "but the 'war' between fans of La Liga sides Betis and Sevilla was unexpected, which forced the restaurant to close." Dani Alves has five businesses located in Barcelona, "successful companies in the world of fashion and real estate restoration." He is also working on a project with Brazilian chef Joao Alcantara, "a restaurant with a menu that fuses Brazilian and Mediterranean cuisine." Andrés Iniesta has a vineyard in his hometown of Fuentealbilla that covers 120 hectares and has been producing wine since '10 (AS, 3/2).
