Event Notes: League Championship Side Rotherham Criticizes Millwall Fans

League Championship side Rotherham has slammed the "despicable" Millwall supporters responsible for the "disgraceful scenes of violence at their Championship fixture on Saturday." An estimated 200 Millwall fans "attempted to storm the home section after Rotherham's 85th-minute winner at the New York Stadium, leading to violent clashes with stewards and police" (London DAILY MAIL, 3/2). ... FIBA Américas President Alberto García was expected to arrive Tuesday night in Mexico City to meet with authorities and reach an agreement about the 2015 FIBA Americas Championship in Monterrey. García said that "no possible confirmation of a canceling of the event had been mentioned to him." García: "We have only talked about meeting to find a solution to this problem. At no time has it been said to me that the event will not happen" (LA AFICION, 3/2). ... Austrian EBEL league side Black Wings Linz and German DEL league side Red Bull Munich are, so far, the new clubs for the '15-16 Champions Hockey League. Apart from the 26 Founding Clubs, the following clubs have also so far qualified for next season’s competition: HC Ocelari Trinec (CZE, B-License), Skelleftea AIK (SWE, B-License), HC Kosice (SVK, C-License), Stavanger Oilers (NOR, C-License) and HC Neman Grodno (BLR, C-License) (CHL). ... The Ladies European Tour has received record interest in hosting the 2019 Solheim Cup in Europe. Ten countries have submitted expressions of interest. They are Denmark, England, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, Turkey and Wales. A bidding seminar will take place on Wednesday at the Ladies European Tour's headquarters in Buckinghamshire Golf Club in London (LET). ... The 2nd annual Rock ‘n’ Roll Liverpool Marathon & Half Marathon is returning to Merseyside in '15. The race is launching a Festival Weekend on June 12-14 with activities including a two-day Running & Endurance Show, special events for participants around Liverpool, a 5k on Saturday and a 1-mile run on Sunday. In addition to the second day of running, the race weekend will kick off with a two-day Running & Endurance Show. Sunday’s marathon, half marathon and 1-mile run will once again start and finish by the Albert Dock (Rock 'n' Roll).
