Spanish Basketball League Issues Statement Following Bilbao Basket-Baskonia Brawl

The Spanish Basketball League (ACB) released a statement "condemning the incidents that took place" at the end of Sunday's game between Bilbao Basket and Baskonia, according to AS. A confrontation between Bilbao's Dejan Todorovic and Baskonia's Tornike Shengelia "led to a fight between players from both teams, that even affected some fans and security personnel, but without consequences." The ACB said in its statement, "The ACB wants to vigorously condemn what happened, and in general, any violence in sports. Fair play and sportsmanship are the lifeblood of basketball and the Liga Endesa." The league's statement also explained its eight-step disciplinary process, and concluded by "proposing to the Spanish Basketball Federation a remodeling of its Disciplinary Policy regarding professional competitions," which has been in effect since '90 and experienced very slight modifications since then (AS, 3/2).
