Rangers Dir James Easdale Resigns From Ibrox Board In 'Best Interests' Of Club

Scottish Rangers Dir James Easdale has resigned from the Ibrox board claiming he wants to see the club "flourish," according to Craig Robertson of the Scotland DAILY RECORD. The crisis-club "announced his departure in a statement to the London Stock Exchange" Wednesday morning. It said, "He leaves Rangers having never received any remuneration, bonus or compromise payment during his time at the club. He would like to thank all the fans and shareholders who supported him and wishes the club a speedy return to the top flight of Scottish football and beyond.” Easdale's resignation leaves just Chair David Somers, CEO Derek Llambias and Financial Dir Barry Leach "remaining on the board" ahead of the shareholders meeting at the stadium on March 6. Easdale insisted that he has "bowed to pressure from fans," but it is also believed a distance had grown between him and Mike Ashley’s side -- something that he "denies." Easdale said, "I want to see Rangers flourish again with both fans and shareholders working in harmony. ... To help achieve that objective, I think it is in the best interests of the club that I step aside and resign from the board of Rangers FC." James’ departure comes after Sandy Easdale, his older brother and chairman of the football board, "sold 450,000 shares to the Rangers Supporters Trust" as they tried to "break up" his 26% ownership of the club (DAILY RECORD, 2/25).
