Bulgarian Clubs CSKA Sofia, Levski Threaten To Boycott League In Bid For More TV Money

A "serious row is brewing in the Bulgarian A group over the distribution of TV rights money" with two of the country's biggest clubs -- CSKA Sofia and Levski -- "threatening to boycott the league unless they receive the lion's share of the TV cash," according to Alexander Krassimirov of INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL. Both clubs claim that because they are the two most watched teams on TV, they "should take the most money from the TV deal." According to the contract, "all the clubs in the Bulgarian elite division receive the same amount regardless of how many games are televised." CSKA and Levski "called on the Bulgarian Football Union to review the contract for the distribution of television rights, otherwise they will 'take extreme measures.'" CSKA and Levski "have also expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that they are obliged by the Bulgarian Football Union to play each other at the Vasil Levski National Stadium and pay rent for the facility" (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 2/23).
