Intel's Barcelona Inside Shirt Sponsorship Hits Technical Hurdle

Intel Corp.’s sponsorship of the underside of Barcelona's team jerseys has not had much exposure "since the deal was announced in late 2013," according to Alex Duff of BLOOMBERG. That is partly because Nike "is having technical difficulties mass producing the logo on replicas of the shirts worn by Lionel Messi and his teammates." An official said that all parties "are trying to resolve the situation." He did not say "if the world’s largest chipmaker might renegotiate the deal," which Forbes magazine reported is worth $25M over five years. For the logo to be seen in televised matches, Barcelona players "need to lift the front of their jerseys up," something they are not obliged to do, according to Intel. Although Neymar "pulled his shirt over his face to show the logo in a Spanish league match in December 2013," that has not happened on a regular basis since then (BLOOMBERG, 2/19).
