SAP Co-Founder Dietmar Hopp To Reduce Financial Involvement In TSG Hoffenheim

SAP co-Founder Dietmar Hopp "has given out a new course after taking over majority control of Bundesliga side TSG Hoffenheim," according to SPIEGEL ONLINE. Hopp said that he "wants to reduce his financial involvement in the club." Hopp: "We are expecting that we will have a balanced result starting in '16-17. We will depend on creating income from player transfers. We have to buy intelligently." Hopp referred to UEFA Financial Fair Play regulations, which currently only apply to Champions League and Europa League clubs. As a result Hoffenheim intends to lose a maximum of €5M ($5.7M) between '18-20. Last year, the club lost €11.7M. Hopp has invested around €350M ($397M) in the club so far. Hopp: "I don't want to leave something to my son that he can't handle. Everything would fall to pieces." Hopp's son Daniel "will take over his position at the club." Hopp also said that "in case his family's involvement in the club would end at some point the shares would go back to the club" (SPIEGEL ONLINE, 2/13).
