Nuremberg Plans To Upgrade Grundig Stadium By Signing Long-Term Lease

Second Bundesliga club FC Nuremberg "is forging a plan to modernize its stadium," according to Timo Schickler of NORDBAYERN. The plan "is to sign a long-term lease for the Grundig Stadium" -- because only then a modernization "would be possible." However, the city "has to approve it." Nuremberg wants to prepare the stadium for the future. The arena was last renovated ahead of the 2006 FIFA World Cup for €55M. The athletics track surrounding the playing field as well as limited marketing opportunities "are some of things the club wants to change and improve." Nuremberg Stadium & On-Field Operations Head Daniel Kirchner said, "The club wants to become a long-term tenant and not a short-term operator." However, the stadium "is owned by the city." Nuremberg Major Christian Vogel said that the city "has been negotiating and discussing different approaches for the past four weeks." He added that "nothing is off the table" (NORDBAYERN, 2/12).
