Star India Wins Indian Premier League Media Rights For Next Three Seasons

Indian Premier League organizers announced that Novi Digital Entertainment Private Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Star India, "bagged media rights for three seasons, starting with the 2015 edition," according to Ashim Sunam of the INT'L BUSINESS TIMES. The Internet and mobile rights for the IPL for the next three seasons were sold for Rs 302 crore ($48M). With Star India having two Platforms in India, hotstar and starsports.com, the company "has still not made a concrete plan as to where would they host the IPL." A company official said, "We are yet to decide where to put the IPL and how" (INT'L BUSINESS TIMES, 2/11). The PTI reported "bids from three entities were received" -- Times Internet Ltd., Multi Screen Media Private Ltd. and Novi Digital Entertainment Private Ltd. The other two bids were for Rs 285 crore ($45M) and Rs 191.8 crore ($30M). The digital rights for the U.S. "would be decided in the next six weeks" (PTI, 2/10).
