Football Notes: Russian Sports Minister Poised To Impose Foreign Player Quotas

Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko has said that he will be "submitting a bill on quotas of foreign players this week." The draft law will "outline eligibility criteria for players which will include age, proof of standard of the player and terms of their employment and length of stay in Russia" (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 2/10). ... ManU Manager Louis van Gaal "still intends to contest his FA disrepute charge despite asking the governing body for an extra 24 hours to officially respond." Van Gaal was charged for criticizing referee Chris Foy after United's 0-0 draw with Cambridge in the FA Cup two and a half weeks ago, with ManU "subsequently winning the replay" (London DAILY MAIL, 2/9).
