Aussie Footballer Tim Cahill Rules Out Becoming Owner Of New A-League Club

Australian footballer Tim Cahill has "ruled out the prospect of becoming the owner of a new A-League club and claims his move to China will be good for football in Australia," according to the AAP. Cahill announced last week that he had signed for Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua on a one-year deal reported to be worth A$10M ($7.8M). He said, "Regardless of what anyone thinks of the move, people will read about what I am doing in China." It has been speculated that Cahill will be part of a new A-League club in the South Sydney area, "but the 36-year-old played down the immediate prospect of it happening." Cahill: "I feel that moving forward if something was to happen it would be a conversation I would have face to face with [FFA CEO] David Gallop and [FFA Chair] Frank Lowy. There's always going to be people talking about me being an owner, and who knows, but at the moment it's no" (AAP, 2/10).
