GOODBYE UDO: Legendary German football coach UDO LATTEK "has died." German media outlets reported "the most successful German club coach died over the weekend at the age of 80." Lattek "lived in an assisted living home in Cologne." He "won a total of 14 titles as the head coach of Bayern Munich, Borussia Mönchengladbach and FC Barcelona, including all three major European club titles." He "also coached Borussia Dortmund, FC Schalke and held the position of sports director at FC Cologne" (SID, 2/4).

GERMAN GP: Mercedes F1 driver NICO ROSBERG expresssed "concern about the uncertainty hanging over his home German Grand Prix." Germany "has a race scheduled for July 19 but neither the Nürburgring nor Hockenheim circuit have so far agreed to host it." Rosberg: "For as long as I can remember, the German Grand Prix was part of the Formula One World Championship, so I really hope our Grand Prix will be held this year and beyond that" (REUTERS, 2/4). ...

The Baseball Escolar social project in Rio de Janeiro that brings one of America’s most popular sports to the streets of Brazil hosts its first charity dinner on Thursday, February 5th with the participation of several former and current Major League Baseball (MLB) players.

The charity dinner takes place at Porcão in Barra da Tijuca at 7PM and has a participation fee of R$500, which will go to the organization.

It counts with the presence of Hall of Fame member Barry Larkin, Champion of the World Series 2001 by the Arizona Diamondbacks Steve Finley, and Brazilians Andre Rienzo, Pitcher of the Miami Marlins, and Paulo Orlando, two times AAA champion and now part of the forty-man roster of the Kansas City Royals.
