RB Leipzig Spends $10.1M On Two Players, More Than 34 German Clubs Combined

Second Bundesliga side RB Leipzig has invested €8.7M ($10.1M) in new players during the winter transfer period so far, "which is more than 34 Bundesliga and 2nd Bundesliga clubs combined," according to FOCUS ONLINE. Only Borussia Dortmund "has spent more on new players," paying almost €12M ($14M) for Slovenian player Kevin Kampl. Leipzig "spent its money on two players:" Emil Forsberg from Swedish side Malmö had a price tag of €3.7M ($4.3M), and €5M ($5.8M) went to Austria Vienna for Omer Damari. The transfers are part of the club's plan "to reach Germany's top flight." RB Leipzig Sports Dir Ralf Rangnick: "If there's the possibility to get promoted, we will try to make it happen." No German club "has ever managed to get from the fourth tier to the top flight without interruption" (FOCUS ONLINE, 1/19).
