Second Bundesliga Side VfR Aalen Closes Liquidity Gap Of $498K, Avoids Points Deduction

Financially struggling 2nd Bundesliga side VfR Aalen confirmed it has closed a liquidity gap of €431,000 ($498,000), according to the DPA. VfR President Berndt-Ulrich Scholz "personally authenticated a bank guarantee in the corresponding amount, which was submitted to the German Football League (DFL) on time." Club Chair Carl Ferdinand Meidert said, "The bank guarantee is expected to fulfill the DFL's requirement and prevents a potential points deduction for the liquidy gap." The DFL "is expected to make a final decision on the issue within the next three weeks" (DPA, 1/15).
