League Championship side Charlton Athletic has named GUY LUZON its new head coach. The former Belgian club Standard Liege manager replaces BOB PEETERS, "who was dismissed on Sunday following a poor run of results." Luzon "previously managed a number of clubs in Israel" and the country's U21 side (LONDON TIMES, 1/13). ... The Ghana Olympic Committee has appointed CHRIS ESSILFIE as the Chef de Mission for the 2016 Rio Olympics. He was Ghana's Chef de Mission at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and is "credited with organizing one of the country's most successful pre-Games camps in South Ayrshire, Scotland." His new role "will include securing a pre-Games training site for Ghana's team" (XINHUA, 1/13). ... Premiership rugby side London Irish named TOM COVENTRY head coach for the '15-16 season. Coventry will arrive from Super Rugby team the Chiefs, "where he has acted as assistant coach in the most successful period in their history." He will take over from BRIAN SMITH (PA, 1/14). ... Premiership rugby side Worcester Warriors announced that CECIL DUCKWORTH has become the club's president. Cecil began his association with the club in ‘93 and his early support signaled the inauguration of Warriors as a professional enterprise (Worcester Warriors).

DISCOVERY APPOINTMENTS: Discovery Communications announced two new exec appointments. JEAN-THIERRY AUGUSTIN has been named president of sports strategy and development in a newly created position at Discovery Networks Int’l, and PETER HUTTON has been appointed CEO of Eurosport. Augustin, who previously held the position of CEO at Eurosport, will report directly to Discovery Networks Int’l President JB PERRETTE and continue to be based in Paris. Hutton joins Eurosport from MP & Silva Group, where he held the post of co-CEO. Hutton will oversee the negotiation of sports rights and lead Eurosport’s content strategy to bring renewed focus to programming, production, promotion and platforms (Discovery Communications).
