League Notes: Cricket World Cup Teams Roll Dice On Bowlers' Suspect Actions

Six bowlers who came under "official scrutiny during the recent crackdown on throwing are set to run the gauntlet" at next month's Cricket World Cup, "the first global event to be staged under the new, hardline approach to suspect actions." West Indies, Pakistan, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe have all named in their 15-man World Cup squads players "who have served suspensions for illegal bowling actions," either at int'l or domestic level, since June last year (THE AGE, 1/13). ... Dunlop V8 Supercars Championship racer Brett Stewart "has been banned from racing for 18 months over an incident during last year's Sydney 500 race weekend." The Confederation of Australian Motorsport tribunal handed down the sentence, including a fine of A$15,000 ($12,200), following Stewart's involvement in a clash after the "final supporting Dunlop Series race at the V8 Supercars event." Video footage posted on Instagram showed Stewart's car "ramming a fellow competitor's car from behind" following the race (FOX SPORTS, 1/14). ... F1 bosses "are debating whether to make changes to the engine rules following a meeting with McLaren's new partner Honda." The Japanese company, returning to F1 after a six-year absence, believes "recent changes made the rules unfair." Honda top brass flew over from Japan to "discuss the issue with governing body the FIA on Monday" (BBC, 1/14).
