German Public Broadcaster ZDF Scores Strong Ratings With Winter Sports Broadcasts

German public broadcaster ZDF "recorded high ratings for its winter sports broadcasts on Saturday," according to David Grzeschik of QUOTENMETER. The most viewed event was ski flying, which attracted 3.57 million viewers starting at 3:55pm. The number translated into a market share of 21.6%. In the target demographic 14-49, the broadcast obtained an 11.8% share. Ahead of the ski flying event, the channel recorded a 23.5% market share for its coverage of the men's biathlon World Cup as 3.47 million viewers tuned in. In the target demo, the broadcast obtained an 11.5% share. The giant slalom race, which started at 2pm, attracted 2.85 million viewers and had a 22.2% share. The country's other public broadcaster ARD attracted only 1.25 million viewers to its coverage of the int'l handball friendly between Germany and the Czech Republic. The game recorded a market share of 6.8% along with 5% in the target demo (QUOTENMETER, 1/11).
