Event Notes: Big Bash League Final In Canberra On Verge Of Sellout

The Big Bash League final in Canberra is "on the verge of a sellout" and Cricket ACT CEO Mark Vergano said that it can "only enhance" the region's case for its own franchise. Cricket Australia confirmed on Thursday that tickets for the game allocated thus far "have been exhausted." While Big Bash CEO Mike McKenna "recently ruled out expansion for next summer, Canberra is being monitored as a serious option when the competition eventually spreads its wings" (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 1/8). ... The confusion surrounding the WTA tournament in Nuremberg, Germany "has been cleared up." The tournament "is back on the WTA calendar after it was surprisingly taken off around New Year's." Tournament organizer Sandra Reichel said, "It was an unfortunate misinformation by the WTA." The Nürnberger Versicherungscup "will take place as scheduled from May 16-23" (SID, 1/8). ... Four London school teams will converge at the University of East London on Wednesday in the inaugural Jr. NBA Basketball England League. Former NBA player Dikembe Mutombo will be on hand for the award ceremony (NBA).
