FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio Hopes To Cut Serie A From 20 To 18 Clubs

Italian Football Federation (FIGC) President Carlo Tavecchio "hopes a plan to reduce Serie A from 20 to 18 clubs is approved this year," according to the AP. Tavecchio said, "If it's not done in 2015 then we'll have to make other evaluations." He "also wants to cut Serie B from 22 to 20 clubs." Tavecchio: "The Italian sports system is imploding. The resources are diminishing. ... (The reductions) can return Italian football to a better level" (AP, 1/5). FOOTBALL ITALIA reported Tavecchio admitted that he is "looking forward to a less controversial year." He "also spoke about the Azzurri, who are currently being rebuilt under the supervision of new Coach Antonio Conte." Tavecchio said, "The national team is everybody's treasure, it should be the reference point for all of our sportsmen" (FOOTBALL ITALIA, 1/5).
