PDC World Darts Championship Final Attracts Close To 2 Million Viewers On Sport1

German free-to-air TV channel Sport1 "recorded close to 2 million viewers" for its broadcast of the 2015 PDC World Darts Championship final on Sunday, according to Alexander Krei of DWDL. The final between Phil Taylor and Gary Anderson had a peak audience of 1.86 million viewers. Sport1 attracted an average audience of 920,000 viewers starting at 7pm. The number translated into a market share of 5.4% in the target demographic 14-49. It was an "impressive number" considering the actual final did not start until 9pm. The final itself was watched by an average of 1.36 million viewers. This number set a new ratings record for the sport. In the target demographic, the final had a market share of 12.1%. Aside from the darts event, Sport1 attracted 220,000 viewers to its indoor football coverage. The Mercedes-Benz Junior Cup had a 1.5% share in the target demo. Later on, Sport1 showed the Basketball Bundesliga game between Bayern Munich and Bamberg. The game was watched by 280,000 viewers and obtained a 1.6% share in the target demographic.

WINTER SPORTS: More than 5 million viewers tuned in to watch German public broadcaster ZDF's coverage of the third stop of the '14-15 Four Hills Tournament from Innsbruck, Austria. A total of 5.1 million viewers watched the ski jumping event starting at 2pm. The number translated into a market share of 26.7%. In the target demographic, the victory of Germany's Richard Freitag obtained a 15.3% share as 1.03 million viewers tuned in. In addition, ZDF recorded 2.55 million viewers for its luge broadcast. The coverage had a market share of 17.1%. Pan-European sports network Eurosport attracted a further 460,000 viewers to its broadcast of the Four Hills Tournament. Eurosport obtained a market share of 2.5% for its coverage from Innsbruck (DWDL, 1/5).
