Executive Transactions

Former Brazil defender ROBERTO CARLOS was "appointed coach of Turkey's Akhisar Belediyespor." Carlos "signed an 18-month contract coming into effect" on Friday. It "will be Carlos' third coaching role after spells at Russia's Anzhi Makhachkala and Turkey's Sivasspor" (IANS, 1/3). ... Serie B sides Livorno, Catania and Latina sacked their coaches to bring in EZIO GELAIN, DARIO MARCOLIN and MARK IULIANO. Serie B "is on its winter break." Livorno "pulled the plug" on CARMINE GAUTIERI and handed the reins to Gelain, its current youth team coach. Catania formalized the dismissal of MAURIZIO PELLEGRINO -- "who returns to the youth team" -- to hire Marcolin. Latina seems "set to fire" ROBERTO BREDA, who himself had replaced MARIO BERETTA in Week 8, and give the squad to Iuliano. Iuliano is currently coach of the Latina youth team (FOOTBALL ITALIA, 1/4).
