Premier League Club Swansea City In Talks With U.S. Investors, Says Supporters Trust

Details of negotiations with potential overseas investors in EPL side Swansea City "have been laid out by the Swans Supporters Trust," according the SOUTH WALES EVENING POST. The trust -- which owns 21% of the club -- "has reiterated its position that it does not see a need to change the current ownership of the Liberty Stadium." But the group -- which represents the interests of fans in the running of the club -- "has confirmed it has met with the potential investors, and has carried out research into their business and managerial history." The trust said that as a shareholder "it had been heavily involved in the negotiations." The Swans "were in talks with America entrepreneur-turned-baseball club owner John Moores and his business partner Charles Nowell." The Swans Trust has said that the negotiations with the Americans "are about them buying existing shares from the current shareholders, not the issuing of new shares." The trust "is not planning to sell any of its holding, and in fact still has the aim of buying more." The trust "also confirmed the potential investors are looking at buying a minority stakeholding in the holding company that owns club, rather than a taking it over completely" (SOUTH WALES EVENING POST, 1/1).
