Malaysia National Diving Coach Says Subpar Salaries Are Driving Away Foreign Coaches

Malaysia is "no longer an attractive place for foreign coaches to ply their trade," according to Lim Teik Huat of THE STAR. Malaysia national diving head coach Yang Zhuliang has "lost five of his back-up coaches" -- all from China -- over the last two months. Zhuliang said the five coaches “left due to the unattractive salary package.” Zhuliang: “When we first started the diving program in 1994, the offer for a new coach was $1,500 (RM 5,250). It has not been revised in the last 20 years. China’s currency has gone up so much since then. A coach must be given the right remuneration for him to stay on” (THE STAR, 12/30).
