UEFA President MICHEL PLATINI is “set to serve a third term after no rival candidate emerged” before the deadline. The former France captain was first elected to run European football in ‘07 and “stood unopposed for a second term” in ‘11. Platini will be confirmed for a third term as president through ‘19 at the UEFA Congress in Vienna in March (AP, 12/29). ... MIKE RIGG has resigned his position at the Football Association to take the role as Chief Football Officer at Fulham. Rigg left his role as the FA's head of talent identification to accept the job at Craven Cottage as Chair SHAHID KHAN continues to overhaul personnel and build a structure to support new Manager KIT SYMONS (London DAILY MAIL, 12/19).


COACHES/MANAGERS: Moroccan football club Moghreb Tetouan has named SERGIO LOBERA its new coach. Lobera's contract "links him to the club for the following year and a half" (EFE, 12/29). ... MARCO BALBUL was named as the new coach of Israeli Premier League side Maccabi Haifa, “following the sacking” of ALEKSANDAR STANOJEVIC. His first match will be against Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Toto Cup final on Wednesday (JERUSALEM POST, 12/29). ... Former French football side Grenoble coach THIERRY GOUDET will become the new coach of Ligue 2 side Le Havre. He replaced ERICK MOMBAERTS, “who went to Japan for a major project” with Man City (EUROSPORT, 12/28). ... Former footballer FRANÇOIS CICCOLINI was “officially appointed as assistant coach” of Ligue 1 side Bastia. The appointment is a “homecoming for Ciccolini, who was previously in charge of the Bastia training center” from ‘02-04 before becoming head coach of the first team in ‘04. He signed a six-month contract (SPORT 24, 12/29).
