Aussie Cricket Player Michael Clarke 'Walking Fine Line' As Captain And Commentator

Australian cricket player Michael Clarke, who is out injured with a chronic hamstring problem, "has made an impressive debut behind the microphone during the Boxing Day Test, perhaps offering a clue as to what his future career might be when his playing days are behind him," according to Daniel Lane of the SYDNEY MORNING HERALD. His insights during the Test "have earned him praise, particularly among his social media followers, who have enjoyed the freshness and energy the 33-year-old brought to the broadcast." But "there were others who questioned whether the injured Australian skipper should make his thoughts on the team public and run the risk of being accused of putting Smith under extra scrutiny -- or pressure -- by suggesting what he would do in particular moments of the match." Former cricketer Glenn McGrath said, "While there's a fine line there, I'm sure he'll walk it the right way." Doug Walters, "who reigned as king of the old SCG Hill during his 74 Test reign between 1965 and 1981, admitted to feeling a little uncomfortable about an injured Australian captain being part of the commentary team." Walters: "I don't know what he's been saying. I've been watching the game but haven't had the sound on, but I wouldn't agree 100 percent with [the injured Australian captain commentating] it" (SMH, 12/29).
