Spanish Side Real Zaragoza President Hopeful Club Can Make Deal With Tax Authorities

Spanish second division side Real Zaragoza President Christian Lapetra said that his club "can sign an agreement" with Spain's tax authorities regarding its debts "as long as it is under reasonable conditions," according to the EFE. Lapetra said in a statement, "In September we could not negotiate in any manner but we have demonstrated to the tax agency, with a legal report and also a viability plan, that we can sign an agreement, but it has to be viable." He added "that problems reaching an agreement arose because Spain's tax authorities asked Zaragoza to pay 20% of the debt in the short term." Lapetra: "Of this €30 million ($37M), €6 million ($7.3M) is not manageable for the club in these circumstances, given that we are not generating enough revenue to make these payments. ... It is a negotiation but we have taken an important step" (EFE, 12/22).
