Rally France In Danger Of Being Relocated From Alsace Due To Local Funding Reductions

The organization of the Rally France in the French region of Alsace in October “appeared to be more and more compromised” on Tuesday after the cities of Mulhouse and Strasbourg announced that they would “reduce or cancel their financial participation for the event,” according to the RTL. A Mulhouse spokesperson confirmed Tuesday that the city has "decided to completely withdraw from its Rally contributions," after previously contributing €100,000 per year. Additionally, the city of Strasbourg announced that it will “halve its funding,” from €300,000 ($374,967) to €150,000 ($187,484). These announcements follow the Dec. 5 notices from two other cities within Alsace that “no longer wish to finance” this event. The French Motorsport Federation (FFSA) has “not yet responded to the withdrawals of financing.” Alsace has hosted this event since '10 (RTL, 12/16). DERNIERES NOUVELLES D’ALSACE wrote that “according to sources” the Rally France will take place next year in Corsica (DNA, 12/16).
