Winter Sports Scores High Ratings On German Public Broadcaster ZDF

German public broadcaster ZDF "recorded more than 3 million viewers for its biathlon broadcasts on Sunday," according to Alexander Krei of DWDL. The women's race, which started at 11:28am, attracted an average of 3.21 million viewers. The number translated into a market share of 23.9%. The men's race in the afternoon was watched by 3.63 million viewers and had a market share of 21.9%. In the target demographic 14-49, the coverages obtained market shares of 13% and 12.8%, respectively. In addition, the summary of Sunday's bobsled event had a viewership of around 2.7 million viewers while cross-country skiing attracted 2.4 million viewers and had a 14.2% share.

MORE RATINGS: German free-to-air TV channel Sport1 "recorded only 50,000 viewers to its Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) game broadcast between Phönix Hagen and BG Göttingen." The game had a market share of 0.1% in the target demographic. The Handball Bundesliga (HBL) matchup between Füchse Berlin and Rhein-Neckar Löwen was watched by 220,000 viewers and obtained a 1% share in the target demographic. Prior to the HBL game, Sport1 recorded 170,000 viewers for the coverage of the European Women's Handball Championship game between Germany and Montenegro. The loss of the German team obtained a 0.6% share in the target demographic. Meanwhile, pan-European sports network Eurosport had a viewership of 110,000 for its broadcast of the Race of Champions on Sunday afternoon. The number equaled a market share of 0.9% in the target demographic. Pay-TV channel Sky's broadcast of the Formula E race recorded non-measurable numbers on Saturday at 6:45pm. Saturday's Bundesliga game between Leverkusen and Mönchengladbach attracted 650,000 viewers on Sky, while the game between Wolfsburg and Paderborn was watched by 520,000 viewers (DWDL, 12/15).
