Nuclear Energy Firm Areva To End French Athletics Federation Sponsorship By End Of '15

French nuclear energy firm Areva, "one of the principal sponsors of the French Athletics Federation (FFA)," announced the end of its partnership with the federation “no later than the end of 2015,” according to LE MONDE. The energy firm is the “notable flagship sponsor” of the IAAF Diamond League track and field event held in Paris every July. In recent years, the financial support from Areva has permitted the July event to bring in “some of the biggest stars in athletics,” including Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt and French pole vaulter Renaud Lavillenie. In a company statement, Areva said it is working with the FFA to “ensure the best possible transition with new partners who wish to engage alongside French athletics for the next Olympiade.” Areva has been a partner of the FFA since ’09 (LE MONDE, 12/12).
