FIFA Reportedly To Approve Measure Banning Third-Party Ownership In 2015

FIFA wants "to put a definitive end to third-party investment firms holding rights in footballers," according to Jesús Balseiro of AS. Iusport.com reported that FIFA's exec committee "is looking to end the practice at a meeting that will he held from Thursday through Friday in Marrakesh." One of the "main proponents of the measure has been UEFA President Michel Platini," who has said that players "are not financial products, and these practices are like slavery and are a danger for the integrity of the competitions." Spanish Football League (LFP) President Javier Tebas, though, "has said on various occasions that such businesses 'make La Liga more competitive and help clubs avoid disappearing.'" Spain's Superior Sports Council (CSD) has "chosen to align with" the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). CSD President Miguel Cardenal said, "The role of investment firms has allowed some teams to grow and qualify for international competitions, but you also have to safeguard the players" (AS, 12/15).
