The pay dispute between A-League side Western Sydney Wanderers' management and players that threatened to derail their Club World Cup campaign "has finally been resolved," according to Sebastian Hassett of the SYDNEY MORNING HERALD. Initially angling to have their Asian Champions League prizemoney -- 50% of the total prize money -- replicated for their participation at the Club World Cup in Morocco, club management first offered a staggered offer that began with 10% of the prizemoney for an opening-match defeat, "scaling up in percentage" should they progress further. After talks with Professional Footballers Australia, the players "threatened to go on strike if their ACL payment ratio was not matched." However, "the players agreed they would play no matter what." The offer from the club "is somewhat improved" but does not match their initial hopes of receiving 50% of the A$1.2M ($991,000) on offer should they lose to the Mexican club first-up. However, "the exact terms of the settlement will not be made public by the club" (SMH, 12/12).
