Budapest-Based Football Club MTK Picks New $26 Million Stadium Design

A jury composed of members of the Hungarian architects' association Magyar Epiteszek Hazaban has "picked the winning design for the planned new stadium for Budapest-based side MTK," according to Jaroslaw Adamowski of INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL. The project "is estimated" to cost about HUF 6.5B ($26M). The selected design "was submitted by local architectural firm Bord Építész Stúdió Kft." Under the plan, the side's new stadium "will be fitted with a seating capacity for about 5,500 spectators." The construction "is expected to be completed by the end of June 2016." The forthcoming investment was unveiled earlier this year by club CEO Tamas Deutsch "and follows an announcement by the Hungarian government to invest in its football infrastructure." The state "is planning to spend" as much as HUF 40B ($162M) on modernizing and expanding 27 football stadiums by '16, in cooperation with the Hungarian Football Federation (MLSZ) (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 12/10).
