Scotland Government Urged To Bring Back Alcohol To Country's Stadiums

The Scottish government was urged to end its "class war on Scottish fans by bringing booze back to punters in the ground," according to Colin Duncan of the Scotland DAILY RECORD. Corporate clients "can quaff as much champagne as they wish in a private box on match days yet the ordinary supporter can’t even have a pint." Those laws, introduced as part of the Criminal Justice Scotland Act, "are now 34 years old and as antiquated as the majority of people currently running football and the country." Scottish Professional Foootball League CEO Neil Doncaster "has already backed the move for change." And he has now been joined by Alloa Chair Mike Mulraney and former Dundee CEO Scot Gardiner "in urging politicians to call time on the discriminatory ban." Mulraney: "We effectively have class demarcation. It is OK for people who go to rugby matches, which I do, to be trusted to have a drink while the working-class football fan can’t. I find that an incredible stance for the government to taking" (DAILY RECORD, 12/9).
