Spanish Football League President Javier Tebas Warns Clubs Against Collaborating With Ultras

Spanish Football League President Javier Tebas has sent a "thinly-veiled ultimatum to Spain's football clubs in order to oblige them to come to the table and discuss how to eradicate hooliganism from their stadiums," according to MARCA. Tebas: "Those clubs that directly or indirectly collaborate with radical supporters' clubs, which we will make an official list of, will receive a sanction which will be a fine but could also be related to the league itself, such as having points taken away, or being relegated to a lower division." After former Deportivo La Coruña President Augusto César Lendoiro was sacked "as an ambassador of the LFP" for his attendance at Wednesday's funeral for a Deportivo ultra, Tebas said of Lendoiro, "He represented La Liga all around the world and he has been relieved of his duties. If he had any kind of relationship with or knew family members of Jimmy, he should have gone round to their house as a normal member of the public, not attend a public act where there was a certain glorification of violence in the world of football. This is something that we will not put up with" (MARCA, 12/4). AS reported the Standing Committee of Spain's State Commission against Violence, Racism, Xenophobia & Intolerance in Sport met on Thursday and agreed to a "proposed penalty" of €60,001 ($74,200) and a five-year sports stadium ban for each of the 88 supporters who, at around 8:30am "on the day of the match between Atlético Madrid and Deportivo La Coruña, used various blunt objects in a tumultuous brawl between radical fans of both teams near the Vicente Calderón Stadium" (AS, 12/4).
