Finance Notes: EPL Side Burnley Reports Profit Of $470,000 For '13-14 Season

EPL side Burnley made a £300,000 ($470,000) profit while achieving promotion in the financial year ending June '14. However, £7.9M ($12.4M) of bonus payments directly related to promotion to the Premier League resulted in an overall £7.6M ($11.9M) loss. The latest accounts show a turnover of £19.6M ($30.7M), a £4.3M ($6.7M) increase compared with '12-13, ultimately due to the success on the field (Burnley FC). ... Betfair "rewarded longstanding shareholders for their patience with the sports gambling group and its turnround plan" by returning to them £200M ($313.5M) in cash and increasing the interim dividend by half. The boon to shareholders came on the back of a 26% rise in revenues to £240M ($376M), "fuelled by keen interest in the World Cup." Betfair "also gave above-consensus guidance for full-year earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation," saying it would come in at between £97M-£103M ($152M-$161M) (FINANCIAL TIMES, 12/4).
