World Touring Car Championship Announces 2015 Calendar, Adds Thailand, Qatar

The FIA World Motor Sport Council confirmed details of the 2015 FIA World Touring Car Championship calendar, "which starts in Termas de Río Hondo in Argentina in March," and is set to end at Losail in Qatar in November, replacing the traditional finale at the Macau Grand Prix, according to TOURING CAR TIMES. The championship "will commence in Argentina, the home country of current champion José María López" on March 8, with the Championship heading to the Termas de Río Hondo circuit for a third consecutive year (TOURING CAR TIMES, 12/3). MINOR TWEAK: CRASH NET reported the FIA has "confirmed the 2015 World Rally Championship calendar, with one minor tweak to the date of Rally Argentina." The majority of the 13-round calendar "remains unchanged, but the date of Rally Argentina has been moved back a week." All of the rounds were present on the '14 calendar, "with Argentina and Portugal swapping positions compared to this year" (CRASH NET, 12/4). Click here to see the full schedule.

TOUGH DRAW: The BBC reported Algeria, the highest-ranked side on the continent, faces a "tough draw" for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations finals. The Desert Foxes, "who reached the second round of this year's World Cup, will face Senegal, Ghana and South Africa in Group C." Hosts Equatorial Guinea "will play neighbours Gabon, Congo and Burkina Faso in Group A." The tournament "will be played" between Jan. 17 and Feb. 8 (BBC, 12/3). Click here to view all groups.
