German Touring Car Championship Unveils 2015 Schedule, Changes Format

The German Touring Car Championship (DTM) "has drastically changed its schedule for the '15 season in order to combat dwindling attendance numbers," according to the SID. Instead of 10 single races on Sundays, next year's calendar consists of nine race weekends with races on Saturdays and Sundays. As a result the '15 DTM season consists of a total of 18 races at nine different circuits. However, some race details "remain unclear." DTM rights holder ITR Chair Hans-Werner Aufrecht said, "These include the questions regarding pit stops, respective race length, points system for Saturday races as well as their time slot." It could be possible that the DTM returns to a prior format, which was in effect until the end of the '02 season. The format included a "sprint" race on Saturday and a "main" race on Sunday (SID, 12/3).
