Super Rugby Side ACT Brumbies In 'Desperate' Search For Sponsor

Super Rugby side ACT Brumbies said that its search for a new major sponsor "is getting desperate" and it needs something locked down within the next 10 days, according to David Polkinghorne of the SYDNEY MORNING HERALD. The University of Canberra "has been the Brumbies' major sponsor for the past three seasons," but will not continue beyond '14 and the Super Rugby province is struggling to find a replacement. Brumbies GM Simon Chester said it had locked up "90%" of its sponsors, "just not the major one" to go on the front of its jersey. Chester said that the Brumbies' costs were A$17M-A$20M ($14M-$17M) per year "and a major sponsor would cover" more than A$1M of that. Chester said, "Time's running out for us. The games start in January and the season starts in February and we haven't been able to secure one at this stage" (SMH, 12/2).
