Real Denies Spanish Newspaper El Confidencial Credentials To Four Straight Games

Though Real Madrid is "one of the world's top clubs," its press box at the Santiago Bernabéu -- "one of the largest and most luxurious in the world" -- does not have space for Spanish newspaper El Confidencial, "the third-most read in Spain with an average of 642,000 readers per day," according to Enrique Marín of EL CONFIDENCIAL. For the fourth consecutive game, "our request for accreditation has received the same response" from Real Madrid's communications department: "Having received all the requests for credentials, we regret to announce that we will not be able to provide a press pass for this game due to a lack of space." El Confidencial has been accredited continuously -- with one exception -- since '06 through the beginning of this season. It is "to say, whether it is subliminal or tacit, that it seems evident that Real Madrid's president has denied our publication entrance to the Bernabéu." It appears that Real President Florentino Pérez "has not liked reports in this newspaper about who is who at the Bernabéu, or about Pérez surrounding himself with judges like Sieira Míguez, among others" (EL CONFIDENCIAL, 12/2).
