Clubs Propose Idea Of Establishing Rescue Reserves For Relegated Clubs

Second Bundesliga clubs "have proposed the idea of establishing rescue reserves for relegated clubs," according to SPIEGEL ONLINE. Relegation from the 2nd Bundesliga to the 3rd League "results in extreme financial burden for football clubs, sometimes even bankruptcy." DFL VP Harald Strutz said, "The 2nd Bundesliga has approached the league association with the idea of rescue reserves. It's an idea worth talking about because relegation means a financial landslide." The majority of clubs "are reportedly in favor of the proposal." The idea calls for each club to contribute between €60,000-€80,000 ($74,000-$99,000) from TV money "to help the relegated teams" (SPIEGEL ONLINE, 12/2).
