Former IMG VPs TOM BERRINGTON and SETH HOLMES have set up a Dubai-based sports marketing and rights representation agency called rise. It will operate primarily in the Middle East and North Africa, with its office based at the Dubai Sports City. Berrington will lead rise's representation business, while Holmes will lead sports marketing (SPORTBUSINESS, 12/1). ... Liga MX side Pachuca coach ENRIQUE MEZA's tenure with the club ended on Sunday after his team lost to UANL Tigres. Turkish football side Galatasaray appointed its former midfielder and current Turkey assistant coach HAMZA HAMZAOGLU as manager on Monday after firing Italian CESARE PRANDELLI last week. The 44-year-old was assistant national coach under FATIH TERIM, who “himself has had three coaching spells” at the club (REUTERS, 12/1). ... The chief organizer of February's Winter Olympics in Sochi, DMITRY CHERNYSHENKO, has been hired as the new president of the Russia-based Kontinental Hockey League. As head of the KHL, which is “heavily backed by Russian government-owned companies,” Russian President VLADIMIR PUTIN said Chernyshenko will be tasked with creating a "strong league" as the basis for a "strong national team.” He replaces ALEXANDER MEDVEDEV, deputy chairman of state-owned gas company Gazprom, as head of the KHL (AP, 11/30).
