La Liga Side Valencia Discards New Bat Logo Due To Opposition From DC Comics

La Liga side Valencia said it will not "use a new version of their bat logo that comic book maker DC Comics had opposed for being too similar to the Batman symbol," according to the AP. Valencia said it had "applied for a copyright for a new design of the bat that forms part of the club crest for a new clothing line, but they have since decided to discard it." The club said in a statement, "During the registration process, DC Comics filed an objection to our trademark registration. There is no lawsuit, nor any claim by DC Comics against VCF. For purposes of clarification, a bat has been incorporated into the club's official crest since 1922. The official crest and the bat have been trademark registered worldwide and their use has not been subject to any legal challenge" (AP, 11/25).

WORLD'S LARGEST BAT: SUPERDEPORTE reported Valencia's Mestalla stadium will host Barcelona on Monday, "with plans for a bat to illuminate the stadium's facade facing Aragón Avenue." Construction workers "have been seen this week mounting the spectacular structure designed with a modern technology that will accumulate solar energy during the day through photovoltaic cells to shine at night." The size and "luminosity from the orange bat will allow it to be seen from planes flying nearby" (SUPERDEPORTE, 11/25).
