Executive Transactions

Bayern Munich Sports Dir MATTHIAS SAMMER has "extended his contract by three years" to '18 after "being rewarded for a successful stint so far." Sammer joined Bayern in '12 from the German FA, where he was sports director. Bayern Munich President KARL HOPFNER also said jailed former club president ULI HOENEß, convicted of tax evasion, will work with the Bayern youth teams from next year. Hoeneß, who is "also an ex-Bayern player and manager," was jailed in June for three-and-a-half years for "failing to pay" some $50.15M in taxes through a Swiss bank account but looks "set to be conditionally released in January" (REUTERS, 11/19). ... League Championship side Wigan Athletic has appointed former Cardiff City Manager MALKY MACKAY its new manager. Mackay is "still being investigated" by the FA after claims he sent texts of a "homophobic, racist and sexist nature while at Cardiff." He replaces UWE ROSLER, who was sacked last week with Wigan third from the bottom of the table (BBC, 11/19).
