Media Notes: Ofcom Considering Inquiry Into Radio Host's Ched Evans Comments

U.K. media regulator Ofcom is considering whether to "open an investigation following complaints about comments" made by BBC Radio Norfolk DJ Nick Conrad during a "discussion about convicted rapist Ched Evans." In a live debate about the former League One side Sheffield United footballer's attempt to resume his career, Conrad said that women should "keep their knickers on." He added, "It's the old adage about if you yank a dog's tale then don't be surprised when it bites you." Ofcom said it had received "three complaints following coverage of Conrad's comments." An Ofcom spokesperson said, "We're currently assessing these and will make a decision as to whether to open an investigation in due course" (London GUARDIAN, 11/19). ... German public broadcasters ARD and ZDF "extended their TV contracts with the German Football Federation (DFB) through '18." Financial details "were not revealed" (SID, 11/19).
