COACHES/MANAGERS
: Former England coach SVEN-GORAN ERIKSSON "is taking over at the Chinese club Shanghai East Asia." The 66-year-old Swede said on Tuesday that "he wants to make the club a force not only in China but throughout the continent, and appears willing to spend big to attract fresh talent." The club reportedly has about $82M "to spend on players." Eriksson is moving to Shanghai on a two-year contract "after more than a year as coach at southern China’s Guangzhou R&F, who he led to a third-place finish last season" (AP, 11/18). ... Bosnia sacked coach SAFET SUSIC "after a poor start" to its Euro 2016 qualifying campaign culminated in Sunday's 3-0 defeat by Israel which left its chances of reaching the 24-nation tournament "hanging by a thread." Having taken over in '09, Susic "suffered a pair of successive playoff defeats by Portugal, in 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012 qualifying, before the Balkan nation hailed him as hero when they secured a 2014 World Cup berth" (REUTERS, 11/17). ... Bahrain is looking for a new football coach for the second time in just over four months after Iraqi ADNAN HAMAD "was sacked in the wake of the country's poor start to the Gulf Cup on Monday." Hamad "had been expected to guide the team into next January's Asian Cup" after replacing ANTHONY HUDSON on a two-year deal when the Englishman quit suddenly in late July to take charge of New Zealand (REUTERS, 11/18).
